About Hyatt

Hyatt is a US-headquartered hospitality company that operates luxury, upscale and lifestyle hotels and resorts in more than seventy countries under brands including Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Andaz, Alila and Hyatt Place. In India it runs a large and growing portfolio of hotels across metros, business cities and leisure destinations, with regional corporate offices supporting operations, sales and development.

Hotels hire continuously for front office, food and beverage service, culinary, housekeeping, sales and marketing, revenue management, finance, human resources and engineering. Freshers typically enter through hotel management campus placements, structured internships, or corporate leadership and management trainee programmes that rotate participants through departments before placing them in a supervisory role. Experienced hospitality professionals are hired laterally for department head, general manager and corporate positions.

Hyatt puts strong emphasis on care for guests and colleagues, so interviewers look for warmth, attention to detail, grooming, communication and the ability to stay composed under pressure. Genuine interest in hospitality, flexibility with shifts and a service mindset matter more than technical knowledge for entry-level roles, while sales, finance and revenue roles also test domain skills.

Step by step

Hyatt hiring process

Hyatt's hiring is run by each hotel's human resources team for operational roles and by regional teams for trainee and corporate programmes. Most candidates go through the steps below.

1. Application or campus registration

Apply on the Hyatt careers site, through a job portal such as Jobaaj, at a hotel's walk-in interview day, or through hotel management institute placements. Trainee programmes have specific application windows and eligibility criteria.

2. HR screening

A short in-person or telephone conversation about your background, department preference, shift flexibility, grooming standards and reasons for choosing hospitality. Communication and presentation are assessed from the first minute.

3. Aptitude or group activity

Trainee and campus hiring may include an online aptitude test, a psychometric questionnaire or a group discussion and activity where assessors observe teamwork, initiative and guest-service thinking.

4. Department head interview

The head of the department you are applying to, such as the front office manager, executive chef or director of sales, interviews you for 20 to 40 minutes on practical skills, situational judgement and your understanding of the brand's service standards.

5. General manager or director interview

For supervisory, trainee and corporate roles, the hotel general manager or a regional director meets you to assess leadership potential, cultural fit and long-term commitment to the company.

6. Offer, reference check and onboarding

HR confirms compensation, benefits such as meals and accommodation where applicable, and joining date, completes reference checks, and enrols you in an orientation programme at the hotel.

Hyatt interview rounds

The rounds below describe a typical hotel operations or management trainee hire. Corporate roles in sales, finance and revenue add a functional interview in place of the department round.

A 15 to 20 minute conversation checking communication, presentation and basic fit.

  • Tell me about yourself and why hospitality
  • Which department do you prefer and why
  • Comfort with rotational shifts, weekends and festival duty

Round 2: Aptitude test or group discussion

For trainee programmes, a 30 to 45 minute online test on reasoning and English, or a group activity of 30 minutes where assessors observe how you contribute and listen.

  • Basic numeracy for billing and inventory
  • Situational judgement on guest complaints
  • Group task such as planning a guest event with a fixed budget

Round 3: Department head interview

A 20 to 40 minute practical interview with the relevant department head, often including a scenario or a small task.

  • Front office: handle a guest whose room is not ready at check-in
  • Food and beverage: sequence of service and upselling a dish
  • Culinary: a practical cooking test or knife-skills demonstration
  • Sales: how you would approach a corporate account in the city

Round 4: General manager interview

A 20 to 30 minute conversation with the hotel general manager or a regional leader on attitude, leadership and commitment.

  • A time you went out of your way for a guest or a colleague
  • How you handle criticism and pressure during peak occupancy
  • Your five-year plan in hospitality

Round 5: HR discussion

Hyatt interview FAQs

Q1How many rounds are there in the Hyatt interview process?

Typically three to four for hotel operations roles: an HR screening, a department head interview, and for supervisory or trainee positions a general manager interview, followed by an HR discussion. Campus and trainee programmes may add an aptitude test or a group activity. Walk-in interview days at hotels often complete the first two rounds on the spot.

Q2How long does Hyatt take to make a hiring decision?

For operational roles, one to two weeks is common because hotels need to fill positions quickly, and walk-in candidates sometimes hear back within days. Management trainee and corporate roles take longer, typically three to six weeks, because of assessment rounds, general manager availability and reference checks before an offer is released.

Q3Why do you want to work in hospitality, and why Hyatt?

Talk about a genuine liking for service and people, an example where you took care of someone's experience, and your interest in the structured growth a global chain offers. For Hyatt specifically, mention its focus on care for guests and colleagues, its brand portfolio and the chance to move between properties and countries as you grow.

Q4How would you handle a guest who is unhappy with their room?

Listen fully, apologise sincerely, and ask what would make the stay right. Offer a practical solution such as a room change, an upgrade if available or a service recovery gesture within your authority, keep the guest informed while you arrange it, and follow up later to confirm they are satisfied. Mention that you would log the issue so the hotel can prevent it recurring.

Q5Describe a time you worked under pressure as part of a team.

Use an example from an internship, college event or previous job where demand peaked, such as a banquet or a full-house check-in day. Explain how you prioritised, communicated with colleagues, stayed calm with guests and what the outcome was. Interviewers want to hear that you support teammates rather than blame them when things go wrong.

Q6What is the salary and eligibility for freshers at Hyatt India?

Freshers usually hold a hotel management diploma or degree, though other graduates are hired for sales, finance and HR. Entry-level operational salaries are typically modest, in the low single-digit lakhs per year, but include duty meals, uniforms, service charge share where applicable and strong training. Management trainees receive a higher stipend and a faster route to supervisory roles.
