Clive Humby and Edwina Dunn, a husband and wife pair, founded the business. Both of them worked at Caci, and Humby was a mathematician schooled at the University of Sheffield. On the day that Dunn was fired, Humby departed Caci, citing his desire to launch his own company. In 1989, the pair launched Dunnhumby from their kitchen in their west London neighborhood of Chiswick. The business started serving customers, such as Cable & Wireless and BMW. Dunnhumby purchased the marketing and promotions management firm Aptaris in May 2018.

Dunnhumby first became well-known for his role in founding Tesco Clubcard. Tesco, which trailed Sainsbury's in the UK retail sector in 1994, intended to develop a new loyalty card. Grant Harrison, the guy in charge of Tesco's trials, went to a conference where Clive Humby was giving a speech.

After Harrison and Terry Leahy, Tesco's then-marketing director, consented to a study, the corporation was invited to publish its findings in 1994 following a series of successful experiments. Tesco's then-Chairman, Lord MacLaurin, delivered the initial board reaction, stating, "What worries me about this is that you know more about my customers after three months than I know after thirty years.

Dunnhumby Recruitment Process

Interview Process

The interview process at dunnhumby, a global leader in customer data science, typically involves several key steps designed to assess a candidate's skills, experience, and fit within the company culture. While specific details may vary depending on the role and region, a general outline of the process includes:

  1. Application Submission: Candidates start by submitting their application through dunnhumby's career portal, where they need to include their resume and potentially answer some preliminary questions related to the job.
  2. Initial Screening: The HR team reviews applications to identify candidates whose qualifications match the job requirements. Selected candidates are then contacted for an initial screening, which may be conducted over the phone or via video call. This step is to further assess the candidate's fit for the role and to provide more details about the position.
  3. Online Assessments: For some positions, especially those involving technical or analytical roles, candidates may be required to complete online assessments. These could include tests on logical reasoning, numerical ability, or even specific technical skills relevant to the job.
  4. First-Round Interview: Candidates who pass the initial screening and assessments are invited for a first-round interview. This could be with a hiring manager or a team member and often focuses on both technical skills and behavioral competencies.
  5. Case Study or Technical Task: Depending on the role, candidates might be given a case study to solve or a technical task to complete. This is particularly common for roles in analytics, where demonstrating problem-solving ability and analytical thinking is crucial.
  6. Final Interviews: Successful candidates from the first round and case study stage are invited to final interviews. These discussions usually involve senior members of the team or department and can cover a range of topics from technical questions to cultural fit within the company.
  7. Offer and Negotiation: Candidates who make it through all the previous stages successfully are extended a job offer. This stage might also involve negotiation on the terms of employment, including salary, benefits, and start date.
  8. Onboarding: Once an offer is accepted, the company begins the onboarding process, which includes setting up IT access, introducing the new employee to the team, and beginning any necessary training programs.
