About Adani Power
Adani Power is the largest private thermal power producer in India and part of the Adani Group, headquartered in Ahmedabad. It operates coal-based power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand with a combined capacity of well over 15 GW, and has been expanding through acquisitions of stressed power assets and new capacity additions, including the Godda plant that supplies electricity to Bangladesh.
The company employs several thousand engineers and professionals across plant operations and maintenance, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, fuel management, safety, environment, finance, commercial and regulatory affairs. Freshers join as Graduate Engineer Trainees or through the Adani Group's campus programmes for engineering and management graduates; experienced hires come from other power utilities, EPC firms and heavy industry.
Adani Power looks for solid engineering fundamentals, safety consciousness and willingness to work at plant sites, many of which are in remote locations with township accommodation. Interviewers value practical understanding of plant systems over theory alone.
Adani Power hiring process
Adani Power hires through the Adani Group's central talent team together with plant and functional heads. The process is straightforward and usually takes two to five weeks.
1. Application and shortlisting
Apply on the Adani Group careers portal, via campus placement at engineering colleges or through a job portal such as Jobaaj. Shortlisting weighs your discipline, academic record and, for laterals, years of relevant plant or utility experience.
2. Online assessment
Campus and GET candidates take a timed online test with aptitude and core engineering sections. Lateral candidates for specialist roles may get a short technical questionnaire instead of a full test.
3. Technical panel interview
A panel of two or three engineers or the department head interviews you on your core subject, plant systems relevant to the role and how you would handle operating or maintenance situations. This is the deciding round for most engineering hires.
4. Functional or plant head interview
Senior candidates and those for critical roles meet the plant head or functional head to discuss leadership, safety culture and longer-term fit.
5. HR interview
HR covers compensation, site posting, township accommodation, shift patterns and documents.
6. Offer, medical and joining
After a pre-employment medical check, which is standard for plant roles, you receive an offer and join an induction that includes safety training before site deployment.
Adani Power interview rounds
The rounds below describe engineering hiring at plant level. Finance, commercial and corporate roles replace the technical panel with domain interviews at the Ahmedabad head office.
Round 1: Online aptitude and technical test
Around 60 to 90 minutes, split between general aptitude and questions from your engineering discipline. Used for campus, GET and junior lateral hiring.
- Quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning
- Thermodynamics, heat transfer and Rankine cycle basics for mechanical
- Transformers, switchgear and protection for electrical
- Control loops and instrumentation for instrumentation roles
Round 2: Technical panel interview
A 30 to 45 minute panel with department engineers, in person at the plant or over video. Expect questions that move from fundamentals to plant application.
- Working of a boiler, turbine, condenser and cooling tower
- Causes of boiler tube failures and how to prevent them
- Generator synchronisation and grid protection basics
- Reading a P and ID or single-line diagram
Round 3: Plant head or functional head interview
A 20 to 30 minute round on judgement, safety mindset and ownership, mainly for experienced hires and shortlisted GETs.
- A safety incident you handled or witnessed and what changed after it
- How you would plan a unit shutdown or overhaul
- Working in a remote township and shift roster
Round 4: HR round
A 15 minute discussion on compensation, posting and documents.
- Expected CTC and site allowances
- Willingness to relocate to any plant location
- Notice period and joining date

Adani Power interview FAQs
Q1How many rounds are there in the Adani Power interview process?
Typically three to four: an online aptitude and technical test for freshers, a technical panel interview with plant engineers, a plant head or functional head interview for senior or shortlisted candidates, and an HR round. Experienced specialists often skip the online test and go straight to the panel.
Q2How difficult is the Adani Power technical interview?
Moderately difficult and very practical. Panels ask about real plant systems such as boilers, turbines, switchyards and control systems, and expect you to connect textbook concepts to operating situations. Freshers who revise their core subjects and read about thermal plant operation do well.
Q3Explain the working of a thermal power plant?
Walk through the cycle: coal is pulverised and burnt in the boiler to produce high-pressure steam, the steam drives the turbine coupled to the generator, exhaust steam is condensed and pumped back as feedwater, and flue gas passes through ESPs and the chimney. Mention efficiency measures such as reheating and regenerative feed heating.
Q4What would you do if a boiler tube leak is suspected during your shift?
Describe a safety-first response: note the symptoms such as abnormal make-up water and furnace noise, inform the shift in-charge and control room, follow the plant procedure for load reduction or controlled shutdown, isolate the affected area and ensure no one enters until it is safe. Emphasise communication and never bypassing protections.
Q5Why do you want to join Adani Power?
Point to the scale of its operating fleet, its growth through acquisitions and new capacity, the chance to work on large supercritical units, structured GET training and the wider Adani Group's career mobility across energy businesses. Add a genuine interest in power generation and site-based engineering.
Q6What is the salary for a Graduate Engineer Trainee at Adani Power?
GET packages are typically in the mid single-digit lakhs per year, with township accommodation or housing allowance, site and shift allowances and a confirmation to engineer grade after the training period. Experienced engineers are benchmarked against other private power utilities, and corporate finance and commercial roles are paid on Ahmedabad market rates.
