About Axis Bank

Axis Bank is India's third-largest private sector bank, headquartered in Mumbai. It serves retail customers, small businesses, corporates and government bodies through more than 5,500 branches, a large ATM network and one of the country's most-used mobile banking apps. Its group companies cover asset management, securities broking, investment banking and consumer finance, so a career here can move across retail branch banking, wholesale banking, treasury, risk, credit, operations and technology.

The bank hires at scale every year. Freshers typically enter through the Axis Bank Young Bankers Programme (a residential banking diploma that leads to an Assistant Manager role), the Axis Sales Academy for front-line sales roles, and campus drives at engineering and management colleges for technology, analytics and management trainee positions. Experienced professionals are hired directly for relationship management, branch leadership, credit, compliance and digital banking roles.

Axis Bank looks for candidates who are customer-focused, numerate and comfortable with targets. It places visible weight on integrity and on the ability to explain banking products in simple language. Digital fluency is increasingly expected, even in branch and sales roles, because most customer journeys now run through the app and the bank's open-API platforms.

Step by step

Axis Bank hiring process

Axis Bank runs a largely virtual, multi-stage hiring process. The exact stages vary by programme and role, but most candidates go through the steps below.

1. Online application

You apply on the Axis Bank careers portal, through a campus placement cell, or via a job portal such as Jobaaj. For programmes like Young Bankers you register on the programme site and upload marksheets and ID proof. Keep your graduation percentage and any gap years clearly stated, because eligibility filters are applied at this stage.

2. Online assessment

Shortlisted applicants receive a link for a timed online test. For fresher programmes it usually has four sections: quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, English language and a basic banking or situational-judgement section. For technology roles the test includes coding or SQL questions. The test is proctored through the webcam.

3. AI video interview

Many Axis Bank programmes now include a recorded video round on an AI assessment platform. You get a short preparation window and then record answers to five to eight questions about your background, why banking, and how you would handle a customer situation. Speak clearly, look at the camera and keep each answer under two minutes.

4. Group exercise or group discussion

For sales, branch and Young Bankers hiring, candidates are placed in groups of eight to ten and given a business or current-affairs topic, or a short case about a customer problem. Assessors look for structured thinking, listening and the ability to bring the group to a conclusion rather than for the loudest voice.

5. Personal interview

A panel of one or two business managers and an HR partner interviews you for 20 to 40 minutes. Expect questions on your resume, basic banking concepts, sales aptitude, willingness to relocate and your understanding of Axis Bank's products.

6. Offer, documentation and onboarding

Selected candidates receive a provisional offer, complete background verification and medical formalities, and then join either a training academy (for programme hires) or the branch or department directly.

What to expect

Axis Bank interview rounds

Most Axis Bank candidates face three to four evaluated rounds after the application screen. Here is what each one tests.

Round 1: Online aptitude and banking assessment

A 60 to 90 minute proctored test taken from home. Sectional cut-offs apply, so do not neglect the English or reasoning sections. Technology applicants get an additional coding or database section.

  • Percentages, ratios, simple and compound interest, data interpretation
  • Series, puzzles, seating arrangement, syllogisms
  • Reading comprehension, error spotting, sentence completion
  • Basic banking awareness: types of accounts, KYC, RBI's role, digital payments

Round 2: AI video interview

A recorded, one-way interview of 15 to 20 minutes. There is no interviewer; the platform scores your content, clarity and confidence and a recruiter reviews the recording afterwards.

  • Tell us about yourself and why you want to join a bank
  • Describe a time you convinced someone to change their decision
  • How would you handle an angry customer at a branch counter?

Round 3: Group exercise

A 20 to 30 minute group activity with a panel observing. Topics range from "Should banks charge for ATM withdrawals?" to a mini case on cross-selling to a small business owner.

  • Structure your first point in under 30 seconds
  • Build on what others say instead of repeating it
  • Summarise the group's view if the discussion drifts

Round 4: Personal interview with business and HR

A 20 to 40 minute conversation, in person or on video, with a branch head, regional manager or hiring manager plus an HR partner. Experienced candidates may get a second, senior-level discussion for managerial roles.

  • Explain the difference between a savings account, a current account and a fixed deposit
  • What is CASA and why does it matter to a bank?
  • How would you meet a monthly target for new accounts in a new locality?
  • Are you willing to relocate and work Saturdays?

Axis Bank interview FAQs

Q1How many rounds are there in the Axis Bank interview process?

Typically three to four evaluated rounds: an online aptitude and banking test, an AI video interview, a group exercise (for sales, branch and Young Bankers hiring) and a final personal interview with a business manager and HR. Technology and analytics roles replace the group exercise with one or two technical interviews.

Q2How long does Axis Bank take from application to offer?

Campus and programme hiring usually finishes within three to six weeks because the stages are scheduled in batches. Lateral hiring for branch, credit or corporate roles can take four to eight weeks depending on how quickly the hiring manager is available. You can track your status on the careers portal and with the recruiter.

Q3Why do you want to join Axis Bank and not another bank?

Link your answer to something specific: Axis Bank's scale in retail and SME lending, its digital products, its structured fresher programmes or its group companies that open paths into wealth and investment banking. Then connect that to your own goals, for example wanting to build a career in relationship management with a bank that promotes from within.

Q4What is CASA and why does a bank care about it?

CASA stands for current account and savings account deposits. They are low-cost funds for the bank because they pay little or no interest compared with fixed deposits, so a higher CASA ratio improves the bank's margins. Front-line staff are measured on growing CASA, which is why the question comes up so often in branch and sales interviews.

Q5How would you handle a customer who is angry about a charge on their account?

Describe a calm, step-by-step approach: listen fully without interrupting, acknowledge the frustration, check the account to understand the charge, explain it in plain language, and offer a resolution or escalation within the bank's rules. Close by saying you would follow up with the customer to confirm it was resolved. Interviewers want empathy plus process, not just apology.

Q6What is the eligibility and pay for freshers at Axis Bank?

Most fresher programmes ask for a graduate degree with at least 50 to 60 per cent marks and an age limit in the mid-twenties. Young Bankers hires join as Assistant Managers after the diploma; sales academy hires join in front-line sales grades. Fresher packages are typically in the range of a few lakhs per year plus incentives, and vary by city and programme, so confirm the figure in your offer letter.
