About Infosys
Infosys is India's second-largest IT services company and a global leader in digital services and consulting. Headquartered in Bengaluru and listed on the NSE, BSE and NYSE, it serves clients in over 50 countries across financial services, retail, manufacturing, energy, healthcare and telecom, with an increasing focus on cloud through Infosys Cobalt and enterprise AI through Infosys Topaz. The company employs more than three lakh people, the large majority of them in India.
Infosys is one of the biggest fresher recruiters in the country. Its Mysuru campus runs one of the world's largest corporate training centres, where new Systems Engineers spend their first months before joining projects. Entry tracks include Systems Engineer, Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer, with the higher tracks reserved for candidates who clear tougher coding assessments. Lateral hiring runs across development, cloud, data, SAP, Oracle, testing and infrastructure roles in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Mysuru, Chandigarh, Thiruvananthapuram and Bhubaneswar.
The company values learnability, clean coding fundamentals, and professional communication, and it expects candidates to be flexible about location and technology.
Infosys hiring process
1. Choose your entry route
Freshers reach Infosys through campus placements, mega off-campus drives announced on the Infosys careers portal, and InfyTQ, the company's own learning and certification platform. Strong InfyTQ scores and HackWithInfy, the annual coding contest, can lead directly to interviews for the Specialist Programmer and Digital Specialist Engineer tracks. Laterals apply to specific job postings or through referrals.
2. Registration and eligibility check
Candidates register with academic details and choose a track. Typical eligibility is a B.E., B.Tech, M.E., M.Tech, MCA or M.Sc with around 60 percent or 6 CGPA throughout, no active backlogs, and a gap of not more than a year or two in education. Recent batches only are considered in a given drive.
3. Online assessment
Systems Engineer candidates take a test of reasoning, mathematical ability, verbal ability and pseudocode, sometimes with puzzle-solving. Specialist Programmer and DSE candidates sit a coding-heavy test of three or more programming problems that rise in difficulty, and the score decides which salary band you are considered for.
4. Technical interview
A video interview with an Infosys engineer or architect covering your projects, core computer science, and live problem-solving. Higher tracks get deeper data-structures and design questions.
5. HR interview
Often combined with the technical round for freshers. It covers motivation, relocation, shift flexibility, and the service agreement that entry-level joiners sign.
6. Offer, background check and training
Successful candidates receive an offer with a track and band, complete document verification, and, for entry roles, join a training batch before project allocation.
Infosys interview rounds
The number of rounds depends on the track you apply for. Systems Engineer candidates usually face one combined interview after the test; Specialist Programmer candidates face a tougher test and at least two interviews.
Round 1: Online assessment
For Systems Engineer roles the test runs about 100 minutes and covers reasoning, mathematical ability, verbal ability, pseudocode and sometimes puzzles, each with its own cut-off. For Specialist Programmer and Digital Specialist Engineer roles it is a coding test of three problems, typically easy, medium and hard, over about three hours on a proctored platform.
- Data interpretation, probability, permutations and combinations
- Pseudocode output, loops, recursion, basic data structures
- Coding: arrays, strings, hashing, dynamic programming, graphs for the higher tracks
Round 2: Technical interview
Thirty to forty-five minutes on video with an engineer or a technology lead. The discussion starts with your projects and moves to fundamentals and a live coding or design question.
- OOP principles, exception handling, collections in Java or Python
- SQL queries with joins, group by and subqueries
- Write a function to check a palindrome, find the second largest element, detect a cycle in a linked list
- For DSE and Specialist Programmer: time complexity, system design basics, a cloud or AI concept from your resume
Round 3: Managerial or second technical round (higher tracks)
Specialist Programmer candidates often get a second, deeper interview with a senior architect that focuses on problem-solving approach and design trade-offs.
- Design a URL shortener or a rate limiter
- Optimise a given piece of code and justify the data structure
- How would you debug a slow API in production
Round 4: HR interview
Fifteen to twenty minutes with a recruiter, sometimes folded into the technical call for freshers.
- Why Infosys and where do you see yourself in five years
- Comfort with relocation to any Infosys development centre and with the service agreement
- A time you learnt a new skill quickly

Infosys interview FAQs
Q1How many rounds are there in the Infosys interview process?
Systems Engineer hiring is usually two stages: the online assessment and a single interview that combines technical and HR questions. Specialist Programmer and Digital Specialist Engineer hiring is three to four stages: a coding assessment, one or two technical interviews and an HR discussion. From registration to offer, off-campus drives typically take three to six weeks.
Q2How hard is the Infosys online test?
The Systems Engineer test is moderate, with the pseudocode and puzzle sections being the usual differentiators. The Specialist Programmer coding test is genuinely tough and expects competitive-programming-level comfort with data structures and algorithms. InfyTQ practice tests and previous HackWithInfy problems are the most accurate preparation material because they mirror the real difficulty.
Q3What is the difference between Systems Engineer, DSE and Specialist Programmer?
They are entry tracks with different assessments and pay bands. Systems Engineer is the largest intake with a broad aptitude test and a standard package. Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer are selected through harder coding tests and are paid materially more, with the Specialist Programmer band itself split into levels by test performance. Answer honestly about which track you are targeting and why.
Q4Explain the difference between an abstract class and an interface.
An abstract class can carry state and partially implemented methods and a class can extend only one of them, whereas an interface defines a contract of methods, allows multiple inheritance of type, and, since Java 8, can hold default and static methods. Give a short example, such as a Shape abstract class versus a Comparable interface, because interviewers want to see that you can apply the difference.
Q5Why do you want to join Infosys?
Point to something specific: the scale and variety of clients, the Mysuru training and certification culture, Infosys Cobalt and Topaz as places to build cloud and AI skills, or a particular practice that matches your projects. Then connect it to your own goal, for example becoming a full-stack developer within three years. Avoid generic praise and never say it is a back-up option.
Q6What salary can freshers expect at Infosys and what are the eligibility criteria?
Recent drives have advertised the Systems Engineer band at roughly 3.5 to 4 lakh per annum, Digital Specialist Engineer at about 6 to 6.5 lakh with a joining bonus, and Specialist Programmer at roughly 10 to 21 lakh depending on level. Eligibility is normally 60 percent or 6 CGPA throughout, no active backlogs and a recent graduating batch. Always confirm the figures in the specific drive notification.
