About LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network, with more than a billion members, and has operated as a Microsoft subsidiary since 2016. In India it runs one of its largest offices outside the United States in Bengaluru, alongside teams in Mumbai and Gurugram. Bengaluru hosts engineering, product, data science, trust and safety, and design teams building the feed, jobs marketplace, LinkedIn Learning and sales and recruiting products; Mumbai and Gurugram focus on sales, marketing and customer success for Indian and global clients.

India is LinkedIn's second-largest member market, so many teams here work on problems that ship globally. The company hires experienced engineers, product managers and data scientists directly, takes new graduates through campus programmes and internships at top engineering colleges, and hires account executives, customer success managers and business analysts for its Talent Solutions, Marketing Solutions and Sales Solutions businesses.

LinkedIn's interviews test technical depth, collaboration and alignment with its culture of transformation, integrity and members-first thinking. Candidates who can explain their impact clearly, with data, do best.

Step by step

LinkedIn hiring process

LinkedIn follows a structured process shared with Microsoft-era tooling but run by its own recruiting team. Expect four to eight weeks from application to offer.

1. Application and recruiter screen

Apply on LinkedIn's careers page or through an employee referral, which carries weight. A recruiter calls for 20 to 30 minutes to discuss your background, motivation and the role's expectations, and to explain the interview format.

2. Online assessment or hiring manager screen

Engineering candidates usually take an online coding assessment or a 45 minute technical phone screen. Sales and customer success candidates have a hiring manager screen focused on past quota performance and account management.

3. Technical or functional phone screens

One or two remote interviews: coding for engineers, a case or product-sense discussion for product managers, SQL and analysis for data roles, or a discovery call role-play for sales.

4. Virtual or onsite loop

A block of three to five interviews in one day covering coding, system design, a host manager conversation and a values interview. Sales loops include a mock pitch and a panel with regional leadership.

5. Debrief and decision

Interviewers submit written feedback and meet to decide. For engineering roles a hiring committee style review determines level and offer.

6. Offer and onboarding

The recruiter shares the offer with base pay, bonus and stock components, then background verification and a start date follow.

What to expect

LinkedIn interview rounds

The rounds below follow the software engineering track, with notes for sales, customer success and data roles.

Round 1: Technical phone screen

A 45 to 60 minute coding interview with an engineer in a shared editor. Problems are medium difficulty and interviewers care about communication as much as correctness.

  • Arrays, strings, hash maps and two-pointer problems
  • Trees, graphs and breadth-first or depth-first traversal
  • Explaining trade-offs and testing your code

Round 2: Coding and algorithms onsite

Two 45 minute rounds during the loop with harder problems and follow-ups.

  • Dynamic programming and recursion
  • Designing a data structure with specific complexity guarantees
  • Concurrency or streaming problems for backend roles

Round 3: System design

A 45 to 60 minute design discussion for mid-level and senior engineers, with a lighter object design round for new graduates.

  • Design a news feed or notification system at LinkedIn scale
  • Search and ranking for the jobs marketplace
  • Data pipelines, caching and consistency trade-offs

Round 4: Host manager and values interview

A 45 minute conversation with the hiring manager and a separate culture-focused interview.

  • A time you took ownership of an ambiguous problem
  • Handling disagreement and giving difficult feedback
  • How LinkedIn's mission connects to your work

Round 5: Sales and customer success loop

For business roles the loop is a 30 minute mock pitch, a role-play with a senior leader and panel interviews on account planning and metrics.

  • Pitching Talent Solutions to a hiring head
  • Building a territory plan and forecasting a quarter
  • Renewal risk and expansion in an existing account

LinkedIn interview FAQs

Q1How many rounds are there in the LinkedIn interview process?

Typically five to seven touchpoints: a recruiter screen, one or two technical or functional phone screens, and a loop of three to five interviews covering coding, design, hiring manager and values for engineers, or pitch, role-play and panel rounds for sales and customer success roles. A debrief then decides the outcome.

Q2How long does the LinkedIn hiring process take in India?

Four to eight weeks is typical from application to offer, with the loop usually scheduled two to three weeks after the phone screens. Recruiters share feedback after each stage, and the process can move faster if you tell them you have competing deadlines.

Q3How would you design the LinkedIn feed?

Clarify requirements such as members, posts per second and latency, then cover write paths, fan-out on write versus fan-out on read, a ranking service that scores candidates by relevance, caching of timelines, and how to handle celebrity accounts and freshness. Discuss storage choices and how you would measure engagement and abuse.

Q4Tell me about a time you influenced a decision without authority?

LinkedIn values collaboration and transformation, so pick a real example where you used data, prototypes or stakeholder alignment to change a plan. Explain the situation, what you proposed, how you brought people along, the outcome and what you learned about influencing across teams.

Q5How would you pitch LinkedIn Talent Solutions to a company hiring 200 engineers this year?

Start with discovery questions on current sourcing channels, time to hire and quality of hire, then map their gaps to Recruiter search, job slots and employer branding, quantify the outcome such as reduced agency spend or faster closures, and close with a pilot proposal. Interviewers look for structure and listening, not a scripted pitch.

Q6What is the salary structure at LinkedIn India?

Offers typically include a base salary, an annual bonus and Microsoft stock awards that vest over several years, plus benefits that are among the strongest in the Indian tech market. Engineering packages for experienced hires in Bengaluru are well into the double-digit lakhs, and sales roles carry a significant variable component tied to quota.
