About Nvidia

Nvidia designs the graphics processors, AI accelerators, networking hardware and software platforms that power gaming, data centres, autonomous vehicles and most of the world's AI training and inference. Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, it has become one of the most valuable companies in the world on the back of demand for its data-centre GPUs. India is one of its largest engineering bases outside the United States, with centres in Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad and a growing presence in Gurugram.

The India teams work on GPU and SoC architecture, ASIC design and verification, physical design, system software and drivers, CUDA and compiler tools, deep learning frameworks, networking, robotics and autonomous driving software, as well as solutions engineering and developer relations. Nvidia hires fresh graduates and postgraduates from top engineering institutes through campus placements and internship conversions, and experienced engineers throughout the year.

Nvidia looks for engineers with deep fundamentals in their specialism, whether that is digital design, computer architecture, C++ and systems programming, or machine learning, along with curiosity and intellectual honesty. Interviews are rigorous and detail-oriented, and the company values people who can go several levels deep on how something actually works.

Step by step

Nvidia hiring process

Nvidia's process is thorough and typically takes three to six weeks. Most rounds are virtual, with occasional on-site panels for senior hardware roles.

1. Application and recruiter screen

Apply on the Nvidia careers site, through a referral, campus placement or a portal such as Jobaaj. A recruiter reviews your profile against the team's needs and holds a short call on background, interests and logistics. Referrals from current employees are common and help.

2. Online assessment or technical phone screen

Software candidates may receive an online coding test or a 45 to 60 minute technical phone screen with an engineer. Hardware candidates usually go straight to a technical screen on digital design, verification or architecture fundamentals.

3. Technical interview loop

Three to five interviews with engineers from the hiring team and adjacent teams, each focused on a different area such as coding, data structures, systems and operating systems, computer architecture, GPU or CUDA programming, RTL design, verification methodology or machine learning fundamentals.

4. Hiring manager interview

The manager discusses your projects in depth, how you approach debugging and learning, and how you would fit the team's roadmap.

5. Offer and onboarding

The recruiter presents an offer that includes base salary, bonus and restricted stock units, and coordinates the joining date. Background verification follows acceptance.

What to expect

Nvidia interview rounds

Expect four to six technical conversations plus the hiring manager. Every interviewer probes for depth, so be ready to explain how things work at the hardware or systems level.

Round 1: Technical phone screen

A 45 to 60 minute call with an engineer covering fundamentals and a coding or design problem in a shared editor.

  • C or C++ basics: pointers, memory management, bit manipulation
  • Digital design basics: flip-flops, FSMs, timing for hardware roles
  • A medium algorithm problem for software roles

Round 2: Coding and data structures

A live coding round expecting clean, efficient code and careful handling of edge cases and complexity.

  • Arrays, linked lists, trees and graphs
  • Dynamic programming and recursion
  • Concurrency primitives and thread safety

Round 3: Systems, architecture or domain deep dive

A round tailored to the team, going deep into how systems actually work.

  • Operating systems, memory hierarchy, caches and virtual memory
  • GPU architecture, CUDA kernels, warps and memory coalescing
  • RTL design, synthesis, static timing analysis or UVM verification

Round 4: Machine learning or specialism round

For deep learning, autonomous driving or research roles, a round on ML fundamentals and applied problems; for hardware roles, a second design or verification round.

  • Backpropagation, optimisers and numerical precision
  • Optimising a model for inference throughput
  • Designing a testbench and coverage plan

Round 5: Project deep dive

An interviewer picks one project from your resume and asks about design choices, failures and what you would change, testing genuine understanding.

  • Why you chose a particular architecture or algorithm
  • Hardest bug you fixed and how you found it
  • Performance measurements and trade-offs

Round 6: Hiring manager interview

A discussion on collaboration, learning agility and motivation, with some technical follow-ups.

  • How you learn an unfamiliar codebase or block
  • Working with distributed teams in the US and Asia
  • Why Nvidia and which products excite you

Nvidia interview questions

Asked in the room

Nvidia interview FAQs

Q1How many interview rounds does Nvidia have?

Typically a recruiter screen, a technical phone screen or online test, then a loop of three to five technical interviews and a hiring manager round. Campus and internship hiring is shorter, usually a test followed by two or three interviews, while senior hardware roles may add a panel with architects.

Q2How hard is the Nvidia interview?

It is among the more demanding in the industry because interviewers go deep on fundamentals rather than staying at the surface. Software candidates need strong C or C++, data structures and systems knowledge; hardware candidates need solid digital design, verification and computer architecture. Depth in your own projects matters as much as breadth.

Q3What C and C++ questions does Nvidia ask?

Expect pointers and references, memory layout, alignment, bit manipulation, virtual functions and vtables, smart pointers, move semantics, and questions on what the compiler does with your code. Interviewers often ask you to implement something small such as a memory allocator, a ring buffer or a thread-safe queue and then optimise it.

Q4What do they ask about GPU architecture and CUDA?

Common topics are the difference between CPU and GPU execution models, threads, warps and blocks, shared versus global memory, memory coalescing, occupancy and why some kernels are bandwidth bound. You do not need to be a CUDA expert for every role, but understanding why parallel hardware is fast and where it stalls earns strong marks.

Q5What is asked in the Nvidia hardware verification interview?

Expect SystemVerilog and UVM concepts, writing constrained-random stimulus, assertions, coverage planning, clock domain crossing, FIFO depth calculations and debugging a failing simulation. Interviewers also ask digital design basics such as setup and hold time, FSM design and synchronous versus asynchronous resets.

Q6What is the salary for freshers at Nvidia India?

Campus offers for engineering roles at Nvidia India are typically in the high double-digit lakhs per annum including base, bonus and restricted stock units that vest over several years, placing them among the highest for graduates in India. Experienced engineers are paid at the top end of the semiconductor and product company market, with stock forming a large part of total compensation.
