About Wipro
Wipro is one of India's largest IT services, consulting and business process companies, headquartered in Bengaluru and part of the Azim Premji group. It works with clients in banking, insurance, healthcare, retail, energy, manufacturing and technology across more than 60 countries, with major practices in cloud, data and AI, engineering services, cybersecurity and digital operations. The company employs well over two lakh people worldwide, most of them in India.
Wipro hires freshers every year through campus placements and the Elite National Talent Hunt, its national off-campus programme, for the Project Engineer role. Candidates who perform strongly on the coding part of the test can be upgraded to the higher-paid Turbo track. Lateral hiring runs across development, cloud, SAP, testing, infrastructure and consulting roles in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Noida, Kochi and Bhubaneswar.
Wipro looks for solid programming and database fundamentals, dependable written and spoken English because most projects are client-facing, and the flexibility to relocate and learn new technologies, which is reflected in the service agreement that fresher joiners sign.
Wipro hiring process
1. Registration
Freshers register for the Elite National Talent Hunt on the Wipro careers portal during the drive window, or are nominated through their college placement cell. Typical eligibility is a B.E. or B.Tech in any branch, or an M.E., M.Tech or MCA, with 60 percent or 6 CGPA throughout, no more than one active backlog at the time of the test and none at joining, and a gap of at most three years in education. Laterals apply to open requisitions.
2. Online assessment
A proctored test of roughly two hours with aptitude, verbal, and written communication sections plus a coding section of two programming problems. The overall score decides whether you move to interviews and the coding score decides whether you are considered for the Turbo track.
3. Communication or business discussion (selected drives)
Some campus and Elite paths add a short assessment of listening, reading and spoken fluency, or a business discussion round, before the technical interview.
4. Technical interview
A video interview of thirty to forty-five minutes with a Wipro engineer covering your projects, core subjects and a live coding problem. Turbo candidates face a harder version with data-structures and design questions.
5. HR interview
A short conversation on motivation, relocation and shift flexibility, the service agreement and career goals. For freshers it is sometimes merged with the technical round.
6. Offer, verification and training
Selected candidates receive a letter of intent or offer, upload documents for background verification, and join a training batch before project allocation.
Wipro interview rounds
Wipro's fresher process is three rounds for most candidates, with an extra assessment or discussion round in some drives. Laterals usually face two technical rounds and HR.
Round 1: Online test
About 128 minutes in total. Quantitative, logical and verbal sections are followed by a written essay on a given topic and then a coding section of two problems, one easier and one harder, in a language of your choice. Sectional cut-offs apply and there is no negative marking.
- Percentages, profit and loss, time and distance, data interpretation
- Coding and decoding, blood relations, series, seating arrangement
- Essay on a topic such as social media, technology in education or remote work
- Coding: string manipulation, arrays, sorting, simple dynamic programming
Round 2: Communication assessment or business discussion
Where included, this is a fifteen to twenty minute check of listening comprehension, reading, spoken fluency and articulation, or a short group or one-on-one discussion on a business topic.
- Summarise a short passage aloud
- Speak for a minute on a given topic
Round 3: Technical interview
Thirty to forty-five minutes on video with an engineer or technical lead. Expect a walk-through of your projects, questions on fundamentals and a coding exercise on a shared editor.
- OOP concepts, difference between C and C++ or Java and Python
- SQL joins, primary versus foreign key, write a query on a given schema
- Reverse a linked list, find the missing number in an array, check for balanced brackets
- Turbo track: time complexity, hash maps versus trees, a small design question
Round 4: HR interview
Fifteen to twenty minutes with a recruiter.
- Why Wipro and what do you know about the company
- Willingness to relocate anywhere in India and to sign the service agreement
- Strengths, weaknesses, how you handle deadlines and feedback

Wipro interview FAQs
Q1How many rounds does Wipro have for freshers?
Three rounds are standard: the online test with aptitude, essay and coding, a technical interview, and an HR interview. Some campus and Elite drives insert a communication assessment or a business discussion between the test and the technical interview. Results are usually announced within two to four weeks of the interviews, and joining dates depend on project demand.
Q2How difficult is the Wipro Elite NTH test and what is the Turbo track?
The aptitude and verbal sections are of moderate difficulty and the essay is easy if you practise structure and grammar. The coding section is the real filter. Candidates whose coding score falls in the top slice of the test are invited to a Turbo upgrade challenge, and clearing it moves you to the Turbo Project Engineer band with roughly double the standard package.
Q3Tell me about yourself. How should I answer at Wipro?
Give a one-minute answer: your degree and college, the programming language and tools you are most comfortable with, one project or internship with a concrete outcome, and why a services career at Wipro suits you. Keep it conversational, avoid reading your resume aloud, and finish with what you hope to learn in your first year.
Q4What is the difference between a primary key and a unique key?
Both enforce uniqueness, but a table can have only one primary key and it cannot contain nulls, whereas a table can have several unique keys and, in most databases, a unique column can hold a null. The primary key also normally creates the clustered index. Interviewers like a short example, such as employee ID as the primary key and email as a unique key.
Q5Why do you want to join Wipro?
Mention something specific rather than generic praise: Wipro's cloud and AI practices, its engineering services work, its structured fresher training, or a client industry you want to build a career in. Then tie it to your own plan, for example wanting to move from Project Engineer to a specialist cloud role. Show that you have read about the company and are genuinely interested in a long-term role.
Q6What is the salary for Wipro freshers and who is eligible?
The standard Project Engineer package has typically been about 3.5 lakh per annum, while Turbo track offers have been roughly 6.5 to 7 lakh, with laterals paid according to skill and experience. Eligibility is normally a B.E., B.Tech, M.E., M.Tech or MCA with 60 percent or 6 CGPA throughout, limited backlogs and an education gap of at most three years.
