About Tech Mahindra
Tech Mahindra is a global IT services and consulting company and part of the Mahindra Group, headquartered in Pune with large campuses in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Noida, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Nagpur, and operations in more than 90 countries. It is best known for its telecom and communications work but serves banking, manufacturing, healthcare, retail and hi-tech clients across cloud, network services, engineering services, data and AI, enterprise applications and business process services.
The company employs around 1.5 lakh people and is one of India's largest fresher employers. Graduates join as Associate Software Engineers through campus and off-campus drives, with higher bands for candidates who clear advanced coding tracks; experienced professionals are hired for developer, network engineer, tester, cloud and data engineer, consultant and delivery management roles. Its BPS arm hires separately for customer service and back-office processes.
Tech Mahindra looks for solid programming fundamentals, clear communication and adaptability, and under its current transformation programme places growing emphasis on cloud, AI and telecom-network skills. Interviewers appreciate candidates who can relate basics to real client scenarios.
Tech Mahindra hiring process
Tech Mahindra runs a standard multi-stage fresher process and a lighter, role-specific one for laterals. Campus drives close within weeks; lateral hiring typically takes two to four weeks.
1. Registration or application
Freshers register through campus placement cells or Tech Mahindra's off-campus and pooled drives; laterals apply on the careers portal, via referrals or a job portal such as Jobaaj. Fresher eligibility usually requires a minimum aggregate across 10th, 12th and graduation and no active backlogs at the time of joining.
2. Online aptitude and coding assessment
A proctored online test with English, quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning and a coding section of one or two problems. Some drives include a short writing task and a psychometric section.
3. Communication assessment
An automated spoken-English evaluation that checks fluency, pronunciation and comprehension, treated as a filter because most roles involve client interaction.
4. Technical interview
A 30 to 45 minute interview with a project lead on programming fundamentals, a coding exercise, your projects and role-specific topics. Laterals typically have two technical rounds, one of them with the client-facing manager.
5. HR interview
HR discusses your goals, flexibility on location and shifts, compensation and the service agreement attached to fresher offers.
6. Offer and onboarding
Selected candidates receive an offer letter, complete document and background verification, and join a technology training programme before project allocation.

Tech Mahindra interview FAQs
Q1How many rounds are there in the Tech Mahindra interview process for freshers?
Typically four: an online aptitude and coding test, a communication assessment, a technical interview and an HR interview. Some drives combine the technical and HR interviews into one panel on the same day, and laterals usually face two technical rounds followed by a managerial and HR discussion.
Q2How difficult is the Tech Mahindra online test?
Easy to moderate. The aptitude sections follow standard placement patterns and the coding questions are usually basic implementation problems. Most rejections come from sectional cut-offs and the communication round rather than from hard questions, so prepare every section and practise speaking clearly.
Q3What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?
Explain that an abstract class can hold state and partially implemented methods and supports single inheritance, while an interface defines a contract that a class can implement alongside others, with default methods in newer Java versions blurring the line. Give a short example of when you would choose each.
Q4Why do you want to join Tech Mahindra?
Mention its leadership in telecom and network services, the current focus on cloud, AI and engineering services, structured fresher training with early project exposure, global clients and the Mahindra Group's values. Add something specific such as a Tech Mahindra initiative or client story that matches your interests.
Q5Tell me about your final-year project and your role in it?
Describe the problem, the technology stack, the architecture in two or three sentences, exactly what you built versus what teammates did, a challenge you solved and the result. Be ready for follow-up questions on the code, so revise the modules you claim as your own before the interview.
Q6What is the fresher salary and service agreement at Tech Mahindra?
Associate Software Engineer packages are typically in the low to mid single-digit lakhs per year, with higher bands for candidates who clear advanced coding assessments, plus variable pay. Fresher offers usually carry a service agreement of around one to two years linked to the training investment, so review the terms before accepting.
