About ServiceNow
ServiceNow is a US cloud software company whose Now Platform runs IT service management, HR, customer service and other enterprise workflows for most of the world's largest organisations. It is one of the fastest-growing large software companies globally, with revenue now well above ten billion dollars a year and a workforce of more than 25,000 people.
India is its second-largest engineering base. The Hyderabad office is a major product development and cloud operations hub, with a growing Bengaluru presence, together housing thousands of employees in software engineering, site reliability, quality, product management, technical support, solution consulting, customer success and sales. Freshers join mainly through a small campus programme and internship conversions; most hiring is for engineers with two or more years of experience, ServiceNow-certified developers and administrators, and customer-facing consultants.
The company hires for strong computer science fundamentals, ownership and low ego, and its interviewers explicitly test the values of being hungry, humble and putting the customer first. Experience with the Now Platform is an advantage for consulting and support roles but is not required for core engineering.
ServiceNow hiring process
The process is run by dedicated recruiters and a structured interview loop, almost entirely virtual in 2025-26. It typically takes three to six weeks.
1. Application and recruiter screen
Apply on the ServiceNow careers site, through an employee referral or via a job portal such as Jobaaj. A recruiter then calls for 20 to 30 minutes to discuss your background, expectations and the team's needs. Referrals noticeably improve response time.
2. Online coding assessment
Engineering candidates receive a timed coding test on a standard platform with two or three problems of easy to medium difficulty. Support and consulting candidates may instead get a scenario-based or platform-knowledge questionnaire.
3. Technical phone screen
A 45 to 60 minute live coding session with an engineer, usually on a shared editor. It covers data structures, problem solving and a discussion of a project you own.
4. Virtual onsite loop
Three to four back-to-back interviews: one or two coding rounds, a system or low-level design round for mid-level and senior candidates, and a hiring manager round. Non-engineering roles replace coding with case discussions, presentations or platform demonstrations.
5. Values and leadership interview
A behavioural conversation, sometimes with a senior leader from another team, that probes how you handle feedback, conflict and ambiguity and whether you match the company's culture of humility and customer focus.
6. Offer and onboarding
The recruiter compiles feedback and, if positive, makes an offer that includes base pay, bonus and restricted stock units. Background verification and a global onboarding week follow.
ServiceNow interview rounds
Engineering candidates typically face five to six interviews in total. The rounds below describe that loop, with notes on how other roles differ.
Round 1: Online coding assessment
Around 60 to 90 minutes with two or three problems. Hidden test cases grade correctness and efficiency.
- Hash maps, sorting and two-pointer problems
- String parsing and simple recursion
- Basic SQL or debugging questions for support roles
Round 2: Technical phone screen
A 45 to 60 minute session with an engineer. You are expected to talk through your approach before coding and to test your solution.
- Medium problems on trees, graphs or intervals
- Time and space complexity analysis
- Deep dive into one project from your resume
Round 3: Onsite coding interviews
Two 45 minute rounds with different engineers. Interviewers care about clean, production-quality code and how you respond to hints.
- Dynamic programming and backtracking
- Concurrency basics and API design in Java or JavaScript
- Writing unit tests for your own solution
Round 4: System or low-level design
A 45 to 60 minute open-ended design discussion for candidates with two or more years of experience.
- Design a notification or workflow engine at enterprise scale
- Multi-tenancy, data isolation and rate limiting
- Trade-offs between consistency, availability and cost
Round 5: Hiring manager and values interview
Two 30 to 45 minute conversations focused on collaboration, ownership and culture.
- A time you received tough feedback and what you did with it
- How you handled a customer escalation or a missed deadline
- Why ServiceNow and what you want to build here

ServiceNow interview FAQs
Q1How many rounds are there in the ServiceNow interview process?
Engineers usually complete five to six interviews: a recruiter screen, an online coding test, a technical phone screen, a virtual onsite of three or four rounds and a values interview. Support, consulting and sales roles have three to four rounds with case or demonstration exercises instead of coding. End to end, expect three to six weeks.
Q2How hard is the ServiceNow coding interview?
It is comparable to other large product companies: easy to medium problems in the online test and medium problems with follow-ups in live rounds, with more emphasis on clean, testable code and communication than on obscure algorithms. Candidates who practise standard data structure problems and can explain design decisions in their own projects generally do well.
Q3What do you know about the Now Platform?
Explain that it is a single cloud platform on which ServiceNow builds applications for IT service management, IT operations, HR, customer service, security and custom workflows, using a shared data model, workflow engine, low-code tools and now generative AI features. Mention that customers use it to automate requests, incidents and approvals across departments, and relate it to any ticketing or workflow experience you have.
Q4Tell me about a time you received critical feedback.
Choose a real example, state the feedback plainly without defending yourself, describe the specific changes you made and the result, and mention how you now seek feedback proactively. ServiceNow interviewers use this to test humility, which is one of its stated values, so an honest answer with visible growth scores far better than a disguised strength.
Q5How would you design a system that sends notifications to millions of users?
Clarify requirements and scale first, then outline producers writing events to a durable queue, worker services that fan out to channels such as email, SMS and push, per-user preference and rate-limit checks, retries with idempotency keys, and monitoring. Discuss ordering, deduplication and how you would handle a downstream provider outage, and mention multi-tenant isolation since ServiceNow serves many customers on one platform.
Q6What is the salary for software engineers at ServiceNow India?
Compensation is among the higher bands in Hyderabad and Bengaluru: fresher and early-career engineers typically start well into the double-digit lakhs per year including stock, and experienced engineers earn significantly more with restricted stock units vesting over four years. Eligibility for engineering roles is a computer science or related degree with strong fundamentals; ServiceNow certifications help for consulting and support positions.
