About Swiggy

Swiggy is one of India's largest on-demand convenience platforms, offering food delivery, quick commerce through Instamart, dining out and event bookings, and pick-up and drop services. Founded in Bengaluru in 2014 and listed on the Indian stock exchanges in 2024, it operates in hundreds of cities with a network of lakhs of delivery partners and restaurant partners. Its corporate headquarters and most of its technology teams are in Bengaluru, with regional and city offices across the country.

Swiggy hires software engineers, data scientists, machine learning engineers, product managers and designers for its platform teams, and a large number of people in city operations, supply, category management, sales, business development and customer experience. Freshers join through campus placements at engineering and management colleges and through internships that convert to full-time roles; experienced professionals are hired throughout the year.

The company looks for people who move fast, are comfortable with ambiguity and use data to make decisions. Engineering interviews emphasise problem solving and system design at scale; business interviews test on-the-ground thinking, negotiation and ownership of metrics such as orders, conversion and delivery time.

Swiggy hiring process

Swiggy's process is virtual for most rounds and usually takes two to four weeks. Engineering roles start with a coding test; business and operations roles start with a case or guesstimate discussion.

1. Application and recruiter screen

Apply on the Swiggy careers page, through campus placement or via a portal such as Jobaaj. A recruiter reviews your profile and, for lateral roles, holds a short call on experience, expectations and notice period.

2. Online assessment or take-home task

Engineers take a timed coding test with two or three problems. Product, analytics and business candidates may receive a short case study or data exercise to complete at home within a few days.

3. Technical or functional interviews

Two rounds with team members. For engineers these cover data structures, algorithms and a machine coding or design exercise; for business roles they cover cases about launching a city, improving delivery times or growing a category.

4. Hiring manager interview

The manager of the team explores how you have handled ownership, speed and conflict, and whether your motivations match a fast-changing consumer business.

5. Leadership or bar-raiser round

For senior roles, a director or head of function conducts a final round on judgement and culture fit. For freshers this is usually skipped.

6. HR discussion and offer

HR discusses compensation, including stock components where applicable, joining date and location, and releases the offer letter.

What to expect

Swiggy interview rounds

Engineering candidates usually face four rounds; business and operations candidates three or four. Interviews last 45 to 60 minutes.

Round 1: Online coding assessment

A proctored test with two or three problems of medium difficulty. Partial credit is given for passing some test cases, but optimal solutions matter for shortlisting.

  • Arrays, hashing and prefix sums
  • Graph traversal such as shortest path between locations
  • Greedy scheduling and interval problems

Round 2: Data structures and algorithms interview

A live coding interview with an engineer. You are expected to write working code and discuss complexity and edge cases.

  • Trees, heaps and priority queues
  • Dynamic programming on strings or grids
  • Designing a rate limiter or an LRU cache

Round 3: Machine coding or system design

Freshers and junior engineers get a machine coding round where you build a small working application in about 90 minutes. Experienced engineers get a system design round on a delivery-scale problem.

  • Designing an order assignment or delivery tracking service
  • Handling surge traffic during a cricket match or festival
  • Clean code structure, extensibility and tests

Round 4: Business case round for non-engineering roles

Operations, sales and category candidates solve a case with the interviewer, often using real-world numbers.

  • Estimating daily orders in a mid-sized city
  • Reducing delivery time in a dense area
  • Onboarding restaurants or dark-store partners in a new locality

Round 5: Hiring manager and culture round

A behavioural interview on ownership, speed and working with cross-functional teams.

  • A time you delivered with incomplete information
  • A metric you moved and how you measured it
  • Why Swiggy and what you would improve in the app

Swiggy interview FAQs

Q1How many rounds are there in the Swiggy interview process?

Engineers usually face an online coding test followed by three or four interviews: data structures and algorithms, machine coding or system design, a hiring manager round and sometimes a leadership round. Business, operations and sales candidates typically have a case discussion, a functional interview and a hiring manager round.

Q2How long does Swiggy take to complete the hiring process?

Two to four weeks is typical for lateral roles, with rounds scheduled a few days apart. Campus hiring and internship conversions are faster. Delays usually come from coordinating a senior leadership round, so keep in touch with the recruiter for updates.

Q3What is asked in the Swiggy machine coding round?

You build a small, working application from a problem statement in roughly 90 minutes, for example a parking lot, a food ordering flow or a splitwise-style expense tracker. Evaluators look for clean class design, readable code, handling of edge cases and a working demo rather than a fancy interface.

Q4How should I answer "How would you reduce delivery time in a city"?

Break the delivery journey into stages such as order acceptance, restaurant preparation, partner assignment, travel and handover, identify where time is lost using data, and suggest one or two targeted fixes with a way to measure them. Structured thinking and a willingness to quantify impress more than a single clever idea.

Q5What system design questions does Swiggy ask?

Typical prompts are designing order assignment to delivery partners, a live tracking service, a search and ranking system for restaurants or a notification pipeline. Interviewers expect you to discuss scale, latency, data models, failure handling and trade-offs, and to reason about peak loads during festivals or major matches.

Q6What is the salary for freshers at Swiggy?

Campus offers for software engineers at Swiggy are typically in the low to mid double-digit lakhs per annum including a variable component and stock units, which is above most IT services companies. Business and operations roles from management campuses are typically in the high single-digit to low double-digit lakhs, with performance-linked pay.
