About UltraTech Cement

UltraTech Cement is India's largest cement company and part of the Aditya Birla Group, headquartered in Mumbai. It operates integrated plants, grinding units, bulk terminals and ready-mix concrete facilities across the country, with a grey cement capacity that has crossed 150 million tonnes a year after a series of acquisitions, and it also produces white cement, putty and building products sold through one of the widest dealer networks in Indian building materials.

The company employs well over 20,000 people across manufacturing, mining, projects, sales and marketing, logistics, finance, sustainability and technical services. Freshers join as Graduate Engineer Trainees at plants or as management trainees in sales, finance and HR through campus programmes and the Aditya Birla Group's leadership tracks; experienced hires fill plant operations, maintenance, mines, supply chain, dealer sales and corporate roles.

UltraTech values engineering discipline, safety, cost consciousness and the ability to work in plant townships and semi-urban sales territories. Interviewers appreciate candidates who understand the cement value chain from limestone to dealer.

UltraTech Cement hiring process

UltraTech's hiring follows Aditya Birla Group practices, with assessments for trainees and panel interviews for laterals. The process usually takes three to six weeks.

1. Application and shortlisting

Apply through the Aditya Birla Group careers portal, campus placement or a job portal such as Jobaaj. Plant roles shortlist on engineering discipline and relevant industry experience; sales and corporate roles look at qualification, territory experience and stability.

2. Online assessment

GET and management trainee candidates take an online aptitude test, often combined with a psychometric or behavioural assessment used across the group. Some plant drives add a discipline-specific technical test.

3. Group discussion or case exercise

Campus and trainee hiring frequently includes a group discussion or a short business case, assessing communication, structure and teamwork.

4. Technical or functional panel interview

A panel of department heads interviews you on your core subject and the role, such as kiln and mill operations for production, mine planning for mining, or dealer and channel management for sales.

5. Senior management and HR interview

The unit head or functional head assesses maturity and leadership potential, and HR discusses compensation, township posting, transfers and documents.

6. Offer, medical and onboarding

After a pre-employment medical check and background verification you receive an offer and join an induction covering safety, the group's values and plant or territory orientation.

UltraTech Cement interview FAQs

Q1How many rounds are there in the UltraTech Cement interview process?

Typically four for freshers and trainees: an online aptitude and psychometric test, a group discussion, a technical or functional panel interview and a senior management plus HR round. Experienced plant and sales candidates usually skip the test and discussion and face two interview rounds with the panel and unit head, then HR.

Q2How long does UltraTech take from interview to offer?

Three to six weeks is typical, as panel interviews are scheduled around plant and regional heads' availability and offers pass through group approvals, a pre-employment medical and background verification. Campus trainee offers follow the placement calendar, with joining after graduation.

Q3Explain the process of cement manufacturing?

Describe limestone mining and crushing, raw material grinding and blending, preheating and calcination in the kiln to form clinker, cooling, grinding clinker with gypsum and additives into cement, and packing or bulk dispatch. Mention energy efficiency measures such as waste heat recovery and alternative fuels, which UltraTech emphasises.

Q4How would you increase sales in a territory dominated by a competitor?

Lay out a plan: map dealers and influencers such as masons and contractors, appoint or activate dealers with the right credit and delivery support, run influencer engagement and technical demonstrations, track secondary sales and counter share weekly, and protect price discipline. Show you understand that cement sells through relationships and availability, not just brand.

Q5Why do you want to join UltraTech Cement?

Point to its position as India's largest cement producer, continued capacity expansion, investment in green energy and sustainability, and the Aditya Birla Group's structured career programmes and mobility across businesses. Add a personal reason such as interest in manufacturing, infrastructure growth or building a career in a core industry.

Q6What is the salary for a Graduate Engineer Trainee at UltraTech?

GET packages are typically in the mid single-digit lakhs per year, with township accommodation or housing allowance at plants and a confirmation to engineer grade after training. Management trainees from MBA campuses earn higher, and sales roles add incentives linked to volume and collections on top of fixed pay.
