Amazon runs a structured, largely virtual hiring process that is very similar across roles and levels, though the content of each stage changes with the job family. A full cycle typically takes three to six weeks.
1. Application and resume screen
Apply on amazon.jobs, through a campus drive or via referral. Recruiters and automated screening shortlist resumes against the role's basic qualifications, so mirror the language of the job description and quantify your impact wherever possible.
2. Online assessment
Most SDE, data and analyst candidates receive an online assessment within a week. For SDE roles this has coding questions, a work-simulation section and a work-style survey aligned to the Leadership Principles. Operations and business roles get a work-style assessment and situational judgement questions instead.
3. Recruiter or phone screen
A 45 to 60 minute call with a recruiter or hiring manager covering your background, motivation for Amazon and one or two Leadership Principle questions. SDE phone screens usually include a live coding problem on a shared editor.
4. The interview loop
The core of the process: four to five back-to-back virtual interviews of 45 to 60 minutes each, often on a single day. Every interviewer owns two or three Leadership Principles and asks behavioural questions on them alongside role-specific technical questions.
5. Bar Raiser round
One interviewer in the loop is a trained Bar Raiser from a different team. Their job is to check that you would raise the average bar of the company, and they hold veto power. Expect deeper follow-up questions on the details of your examples.
6. Debrief and offer
The interviewers meet, compare written feedback and vote. If the panel is aligned, the recruiter shares an offer within one to two weeks. Amazon India compensation is typically base pay plus a joining bonus and restricted stock units that vest over four years.
