1. Application and resume review
Apply through the Amex careers site, a campus placement drive or an employee referral. Resumes are screened for quantitative background, relevant internships or experience and role fit. Campus applicants are usually asked to indicate a preferred track such as analytics, engineering or finance at this stage.
2. Online assessment
Campus and many lateral candidates complete an online test covering numerical reasoning, logical reasoning and, for engineering roles, coding questions. Analytics roles may get statistics and SQL questions, and some tracks include a short video-based behavioural assessment.
3. Technical or case interviews
One or two rounds with team members. Analytics candidates work through data and business cases such as credit risk or marketing spend problems; engineers face coding and system design; risk and finance candidates get domain-specific questions.
4. Behavioural and leadership interview
A structured interview mapped to Amex leadership behaviours, with questions on customer focus, ownership, collaboration and integrity. Answers are expected in a situation, action and result format.
5. Hiring manager or director round
A final discussion with the hiring manager or a senior leader on your interest in the role, career goals and fit with the team.
6. Offer and onboarding
HR confirms compensation, joining date and location. Background verification is thorough given the financial services context and can take a couple of weeks.
